Three Lotto Players Share $1 Million as Strike Ticket Wins $400,000

Three lucky players from New Zealand have won $333,333 each after sharing the $1 million first division prize in Wednesday night’s draw. A separate ticket matched Strike 4, securing the full $400,000 jackpot and making it the largest confirmed prize from the 22 July draw.

Powerball First Division was not, however, won, and its $35 million jackpot has therefore been rolled over to Saturday night, where $40 million will be up for grabs. The winning Lotto numbers on 22 July were 3, 18, 25, 26, 30, and 34. The bonus ball was 37, while the Powerball number was 10.

Lotto NZ hasn’t yet named the stores or locations associated with the four massive winning tickets, but the operator did say those details would be released after giving players time to check their tickets themselves. To check your ticket, you can do it through My Lotto, the My Lotto app, or by visiting an authorised Lotto retailer.

Sixteen Second Division Winners

A further 16 tickets won $27,740 each in Lotto 2nd division, with two of these tickets also matching Powerball 2nd division, which increased the total prize for both players to $43,792.

The rollover means that this Saturday’s draw will carry one of the largest Powerball prizes in Lotto history in New Zealand. Lotto NZ has already put out an announcement encouraging customers who are planning to enter the draw to purchase tickets as quickly as possible before the busiest periods on draw day itself, as shops can get very crowded and even online retailers can struggle to deal with demand.

In a rather commendable responsible-gambling move, the lottery operator has also reminded players that the chances of winning the jackpot do not improve simply because the jackpot has grown. While a larger advertised prize can attract more people to actually play, every ticket still continues to have the same underlying odds of winning the jackpot.

Under Lotto NZ’s operating model, the Crown-owned organisation returns its profits to New Zealand’s communities through a variety of different grant programmes, which are administered by Te Puna Tahua, the New Zealand Lottery Grants Board.
