Our Casinos Are: Verified, Safe & Licensed, Tested.

Let’s cut to the chase: if you search for “PayPal casino NZ”, you won’t find any. There are currently no online casinos that accept PayPal for New Zealand players.

Any casino site that advertises a PayPal casino deposit to Kiwis is either showing you geo-targeted marketing meant for other countries, or worse – and we’ll get into the “worse” side of things below, because some of it is very much rogue behaviour.

However, there may be a silver lining, and 2026 may end up being a different story. That’s exactly why this page is worth reading: the exact reason PayPal has never worked at a casino in New Zealand is being removed right now, by law. First, let’s check out the best PayPal alternatives – and if you’re in a hurry, check out Skrill and Neteller, two of the best similar payment methods.

Best Online Casino With PayPal Alternatives (EWallets)

Because there currently is no legit PayPal casino in New Zealand, the list below includes our recommended sites with similar payment methods: EWallets. Each casino has been hand-tested by our team of experts, and you can get a quick overview of what each site offers below:

All of the real money casinos above accept players from New Zealand, and if you see one that you like the look of, hit “Play Now” to be taken directly to the site’s sign-up page!

Why No Online Casino Accepts PayPal in New Zealand

The reason no NZ online casino accepts PayPal has nothing to do with the country itself: PayPal has a very strict global gambling policy, allowing only licensed operators to use its services for iGaming. That’s why you can use PayPal at casinos in the UK, in much of Europe, and in regulated US states, as every one of those markets has a domestic licence for the operator to hold and a local regulator for PayPal to point to.

There has never been a domestic licensing regime in New Zealand, hence the complete lack of the deposit method being available.

All of the online casinos available to Kiwis operate offshore under a Malta, Curaçao, or similar license – and that means no operator has ever been able to meet PayPal’s core condition of being domestically licensed. That’s why no amount of searching for the best PayPal casino in NZ has ever turned up an actual, real result.

As a result, if you see PayPal offered at a casino advertising its services to Kiwis, something is wrong: with the casino, or what’s actually behind the button.

However…

The 2026 Change: Why a PayPal Online Casino Could Finally Come to NZ

As we’ve covered extensively at DashTickets, New Zealand’s Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 came into force on the 1st of May, with its regulations coming in on the 3rd of July, creating, for the first time, a domestic licensing framework for online casinos.

It’s run by the Department of Internal Affairs, and  Expressions of Interest opened on the 17th of July, with up to 15 licenses expected to be eventually awarded through an auction process. From the 1st of December, 2026, unlicensed operators will be required to exit the NZ market for good.

Compare the new regulations to PayPal’s policies, and the implication is pretty clear: once licensed online casinos in New Zealand are legally allowed to operate, they may well be able to accept deposits and withdrawals using PayPal. Plus, several of the international iGaming groups who’re expected to apply for a NZ license already offer PayPal at their UK and European brands, meaning they’re already familiar with the payment provider and how it works.

To be clear, we’re not saying that casino players will definitely be able to use PayPal at New Zealand casinos once licensed sites begin accepting real money bets. But there is a very strong chance that “PayPal casino NZ” will stop being a scammy keyword prompted by rogue affiliates – and something that actually allows you to find safe, regulated, and PayPal-friendly casinos in New Zealand – with a valid license.

Potential PayPal Operators in NZ: The Early Casino Site Watchlist

So, which casinos are actually most likely to offer PayPal once New Zealand licences are issued?

One note I want to make: As of the 2nd of August, 2026, no operator has publicly confirmed a completed Expression of Interest submission, and the window to submit applications remains open until the 14th of August. Submitting an EOI is also just the first step of a multi-part process, and full license applications aren’t expected to begin until October.

However, several major brands have publicly stated they’re looking to launch a casino online in New Zealand with a proper license, and some of these brands already offer PayPal in other regulated markets, so there’s a good chance PayPal may appear at their NZ-focused sites, too.

That leaves us with three credible early candidates:

Casino BrandCurrent NZ Licensing PositionDo They Offer PayPal as a Payment Method Elsewhere? Why DashTickets Believes They’re Likely to Offer PayPal in NZ
888casinoPublicly expressed interest in an NZ licenceYes – PayPal is listed among its UK payment methods for deposits and withdrawalsOne of the largest online gambling brands in the world, with PayPal already integrated into a long-established regulated casino platform
BetwayPublicly expressed interest in an NZ licenceYes – PayPal withdrawals are supported in the UK, with a minimum withdrawal of just £5A broad casino and sportsbook that has existing PayPal infrastructure in multiple regulated markets
bet365Publicly expressed interest in an NZ licenceYes, PayPal is available for both deposits and withdrawals. One of the world’s largest regulated gambling brands that accept PayPal in many regulated markets, too
photo 2026 08 09 18.44.43
photo 2026 08 09 18.41.07

The New Zealand interest attached to all three brands has been publicly reported, but we cannot yet call any of the three official applicants, successful bidders, or future places for online casino players in New Zealand. They do, however, look to be the best contenders as it stands.

The Fake “Using PayPal for Online Gambling” in NZ Traps to Avoid

Because Kiwis keep searching for casinos accepting PayPal, some offshore sites put up the PayPal logo as “bait” – and trust me; we’ve tested enough of them to know the pattern pretty well by now. Here are the three we see most often:

  1. The “Bait & Switch”: An advert targeting New Zealanders promises PayPal deposits, but once you register and open an account, the PayPal button has vanished – replaced by card options or crypto. Any casino that lies about its payment methods just to get you to sign up tells you everything you need to know about how they operate.
  2. Low-Deposit “Lure”: Sometimes, a casino offers PayPal deposits from as little as NZ$5 – only for you to find, when inside the cashier, that you’re not taken to PayPal’s login window, but to an unverified crypto-purchase portal instead, where you’re asked for your debit card details. This is worse than point #1: some of these sites are actively trying to steal your card info.
  3. The VPN “Trick”: Some affiliate websites will say you can choose PayPal by joining a legitimate casino that offers the payment method, and simply using a VPN to connect to a country where PayPal deposits are allowed. Do not do this. You will get caught, and you will not be paid your winnings. This is one of the exact reasons KYC checks are in place.

The fact, as of now, remains: no online casino site in New Zealand can take PayPal payments – yet. However, that doesn’t mean you’re out of options until the official licensing regime comes into force. Below, we’ll look at some of the best alternatives.

The Best PayPal Alternatives for NZ Players Compared

While New Zealand online casinos cannot currently accept PayPal, that doesn’t mean you’re out of options. Below, we’ll show you the best alternatives that are as similar to PayPal as possible – in order, from most, to least similar.

Payment MethodDeposit SpeedWithdrawals?Withdrawal SpeedBonus Eligible?Best For
SkrillInstantYesSame day – 24 hoursOften excluded – check termsThe closest overall match to PayPal
NetellerInstantYesSame day – 24 hoursOften excluded – check termsHigher limits, regular players
VisaInstantYes1-5 working daysUsuallyEveryday simplicity

PaysafecardInstantNoN/AUsuallyNo bank details shared at all

Now, one thing worth noting is that when you make online casino transactions with Skrill and Neteller (the two main PayPal alternatives), you’re almost always going to be excluded from claiming a welcome bonus.

The second thing to keep in mind: one-tap device wallets and Paysafecard are deposit-only, so you’ll need to register an additional withdrawal method alongside it.

The Closest Deposit and Withdrawal PayPal Alternatives Explained

In the table above, we showed you a quick-reference overview of the most similar payment methods to consider using while there isn’t currently a live PayPal casino site in NZ.

However, a table can only tell you so much information, and that’s why, below, I’ll explain the three core alternatives: Skrill, Neteller, and MuchBetter.

Skrill

Skrill is the nearest like-for-like alternative to PayPal: instant deposits, same-day withdrawals (including at most of the best online casinos in New Zealand recommended at DashTickets), and it’s also incredibly secure: casinos never see your card or bank details.

Adding funds to a Skrill account is simple and takes just a couple of minutes, and we’ve put together a full Skrill guide, including a real, photographed deposit and withdrawal test, which you can read here.

Note: Most casinos don’t allow you to claim a welcome bonus with deposits made via Skrill.

Neteller

Neteller is Skrill’s sibling (both literally and metaphorically), and not only does it work on a near-identical basis, but it’s also owned by Paysafe Group.

Traditionally, the slight benefit of Neteller over Skrill is that it sometimes has higher transaction and withdrawal limits, but this depends on location and verification status.

Practicality-wise, however, it works on an almost like-for-like basis as Skrill, and that means the welcome bonus exclusions also apply.

MuchBetter

MuchBetter is a newer eWallet, and while not every casino provides it, it’s slowly becoming more common. MuchBetter allows you to make a deposit at an online casino using a special mobile-first app, and it was designed specifically around gambling payments with low fees, instant deposits, and full withdrawals.

The fact that it offers withdrawals is the one thing other loosely similar alternatives like Google Pay and Apple Pay can’t give you, so if you want the tap-on-your-phone experience and want to withdraw back to the same place, MuchBetter is worth a try.

PayPal Casino NZ FAQs

Is there any online casino that accepts PayPal in New Zealand?

No, not as of August 2026. PayPal only works with operators licensed in the player’s own country, and NZ’s first online casino licences haven’t been issued yet. Under the new licensing regime, however, there may be casinos that support PayPal, but it remains to be seen.

Is PayPal banned in New Zealand?

No, PayPal works perfectly well in NZ for shopping, sending money, and everything else. The restriction is PayPal’s own gambling policy: it simply won’t process casino transactions in markets without domestic licensing.

Can I use PayPal at an international casino – say, a UK site – from New Zealand?

No. Casinos licensed in PayPal-supported markets verify your location, and they won’t accept a NZ address and then allow you to deposit using PayPal. Trying to use a VPN to circumvent geo-restrictions is a terrible idea and will almost certainly result in an account ban – and losing any funds you deposited via PayPal.

When will PayPal casinos actually come to NZ?

Nobody knows yet. What we do know is that licenses will be awarded through an auction process in September 2026, and from December 1st, unlicensed operators must stop taking Kiwi bets. When – or even whether – you can deposit with PayPal at licensed sites, however, remains to be seen.

What’s the best PayPal casino alternative in NZ right now?

Skrill, for most players, as it’s the nearest like-for-like EWallet currently available. It offers instant deposits, and same-day withdrawals at many of the sites listed above.

Gambling Addiction Warning

Gambling should only ever be viewed as a form of fun; entertainment, and never a way to make money, or for financial gain. If you find yourself chasing losses, unable to stop, or expecting to win, you may be exhibiting signs of problem gambling. If, at any point, you feel that you have a gambling problem, stop immediately, check out our Responsible Gambling page, and reach out to organisations and charities like New Zealand’s Problem Gambling Foundation. I have had the same reply from 3 casinos. I do not have PayPal as an option in the bank. I am in New Zealand and each have told me Paypal is area specific and my area (New Zealand) can not use PayPal. Is there a different way you did it or is New Zealand no longer able to use PayPal? Thanks.

Hi Maryanne, PayPal is always quite an “iffy” payment method in the online gambling world; they’re very strict about who they work with, and which countries they’re allowed to operate in.

As New Zealand is *currently* a non-regulated market, you won’t find PayPal offered at many NZ-focused casinos. Recently, we’ve been recommending Paysafecard and cryptocurrencies (like Bitcoin and Ethereum) to deposit.

Paysafecard is unavailable for withdrawals, though, so you’ll need to withdraw via Bank Transfer or a similar method. Crypto is super-fast, and, provided you’re playing at a reputable casino, offers near-instant withdrawals, too, so that’s the way to go IF you can deal with the short learning curve associated with it 🙂
