Why No Online Casino Accepts PayPal in New Zealand
The reason no NZ online casino accepts PayPal has nothing to do with the country itself: PayPal has a very strict global gambling policy, allowing only licensed operators to use its services for iGaming. However…
The 2026 Change: Why a PayPal Online Casino Could Finally Come to NZ
As we’ve covered extensively at DashTickets, New Zealand’s Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 came into force on the 1st of May, with its regulations coming in on the 3rd of July, creating, for the first time, a domestic licensing framework for online casinos.
It’s run by the Department of Internal Affairs, and Expressions of Interest opened on the 17th of July, with up to 15 licenses expected to be eventually awarded through an auction process. From the 1st of December, 2026, unlicensed operators will be required to exit the NZ market for good.
Compare the new regulations to PayPal’s policies, and the implication is pretty clear: once licensed online casinos in New Zealand are legally allowed to operate, they may well be able to accept deposits and withdrawals using PayPal. Plus, several of the international iGaming groups who’re expected to apply for a NZ license already offer PayPal at their UK and European brands, meaning they’re already familiar with the payment provider and how it works.
To be clear, we’re not saying that casino players will definitely be able to use PayPal at New Zealand casinos once licensed sites begin accepting real money bets. But there is a very strong chance that “PayPal casino NZ” will stop being a scammy keyword prompted by rogue affiliates – and something that actually allows you to find safe, regulated, and PayPal-friendly casinos in New Zealand – with a valid license.
Potential PayPal Operators in NZ: The Early Casino Site Watchlist
So, which casinos are actually most likely to offer PayPal once New Zealand licences are issued?
One note I want to make: As of the 2nd of August, 2026, no operator has publicly confirmed a completed Expression of Interest submission, and the window to submit applications remains open until the 14th of August. Submitting an EOI is also just the first step of a multi-part process, and full license applications aren’t expected to begin until October.
However, several major brands have publicly stated they’re looking to launch a casino online in New Zealand with a proper license, and some of these brands already offer PayPal in other regulated markets, so there’s a good chance PayPal may appear at their NZ-focused sites, too.
That leaves us with three credible early candidates:

The New Zealand interest attached to all three brands has been publicly reported, but we cannot yet call any of the three official applicants, successful bidders, or future places for online casino players in New Zealand. They do, however, look to be the best contenders as it stands.
The Fake “Using PayPal for Online Gambling” in NZ Traps to Avoid
Because Kiwis keep searching for casinos accepting PayPal, some offshore sites put up the PayPal logo as “bait” – and trust me; we’ve tested enough of them to know the pattern pretty well by now. Here are the three we see most often:
- The “Bait & Switch”: An advert targeting New Zealanders promises PayPal deposits, but once you register and open an account, the PayPal button has vanished – replaced by card options or crypto. Any casino that lies about its payment methods just to get you to sign up tells you everything you need to know about how they operate.
- Low-Deposit “Lure”: Sometimes, a casino offers PayPal deposits from as little as NZ$5 – only for you to find, when inside the cashier, that you’re not taken to PayPal’s login window, but to an unverified crypto-purchase portal instead, where you’re asked for your debit card details. This is worse than point #1: some of these sites are actively trying to steal your card info.
- The VPN “Trick”: Some affiliate websites will say you can choose PayPal by joining a legitimate casino that offers the payment method, and simply using a VPN to connect to a country where PayPal deposits are allowed. 10 Jan, 2026Hi Maryanne, PayPal is always quite an “iffy” payment method in the online gambling world; they’re very strict about who they work with, and which countries they’re allowed to operate in.
As New Zealand is *currently* a non-regulated market, you won’t find PayPal offered at many NZ-focused casinos. Recently, we’ve been recommending Paysafecard and cryptocurrencies (like Bitcoin and Ethereum) to deposit.
Paysafecard is unavailable for withdrawals, though, so you’ll need to withdraw via Bank Transfer or a similar method. Crypto is super-fast, and, provided you’re playing at a reputable casino, offers near-instant withdrawals, too, so that’s the way to go IF you can deal with the short learning curve associated with it 🙂
