New Zealand’s Powerball jackpot has climbed to NZ$15 million for Wednesday night after Powerball First Division went unclaimed in Saturday’s 15 August draw. The draw did, however, manage to create two major winners: one Lotto First Division ticket won NZ$1 million, while a separate Strike Four ticket collected NZ$700,000.
Lotto NZ also reported 18 Lotto and Powerball Second Division winners, each receiving $17,150. That means that despite a main jackpot winner, Saturday still managed to produce plenty of very healthy-sized wins.
The rollover means the Powerball’s previous NZ$12 million jackpot will increase to NZ$15 million for the draw on Wednesday, 19 August. A NZ$3 million increase in a few days is pretty significant, and is likely to attract the attention of players and even those who rarely play the lotto, alike.
Wednesday’s Jackpot Moves Higher
The latest result is definitely worth separating from the much larger Powerball jackpots seen earlier in the year. After Saturday’s top prize of NZ$12 million wasn’t won and no Powerball First Division winner was drawn, the jackpot once again comfortably crosses into the mid-eight-figure range.
It’s also worth pointing out that the Lotto First Division win shows why the main jackpot is only one part of each draw. As you’ve seen, a ticket can still land a seven-figure prize through Lotto First Division without matching the additional Powerball number, while Strike operates as a separate game entirely, with its own prize structure independent from the main Lotto.
