A couple of points:
Firstly, the voucher-based options (Paysafecard and Neosurf) are the closest technically replacement for Afterpay, if you’re looking for spending caps. After all, a NZ$20 voucher bought with cash is a limit no app notification can talk you past. The main downside of using vouchers is that even at the best online casino, you’ll need to register a secondary withdrawal method as they’re both deposit-only.
Secondly, if you plan on claiming a welcome bonus, you should deposit by card, bank, or crypto, rather than Skrill or Neteller for that first deposit. It’s standard practice in the online casino world that welcome bonuses cannot be claimed with EWallets due to historical fraud.
Will You Ever Be Able To Gamble With Afterpay in New Zealand?
Probably not, and the new gambling laws that are now largely replacing the Gambling Act 2003 make it even less likely. New Zealand’s Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 brings licensed local casinos from late this year, and those licences come loaded with harm-minimisation obligations, which is the total opposite of allowing people to gamble on credit – and then have to pay fees for using Afterpay.
We already know that credit card gambling will be banned at licensed operators, and while plenty of alternative payment options remain, it’s clear the DIA wants to move towards a UK-like model, with all forms of credit-based gambling banned.
Also: read the terms and conditions while using Afterpay directly, and you’ll see clearly that the company doesn’t allow people to gamble on instalment credit.
We’ll obviously update this page if anything moves, but we’re pretty confident in saying there will never be a casino (licensed or not) where Afterpay allows you to make deposits.
